City encourages everyone to attend HIPC’s 2nd annual Hamilton Newcomer Day on June 14

Hamilton, ON – On Friday, June 14, 2019 from noon to 3 pm, the media and public are invited to attend the 2nd annual Newcomer Day celebration at Hamilton City Hall. Hosted by the Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council (HIPC), Hamilton Newcomer Day celebrates the richly diverse and inclusive city that we are today while providing the opportunity to learn about the resources and services available to help newcomers make Hamilton their home.

The event kicks off at noon with an official opening ceremony that includes entertainment from a wide variety of local performers, including song and dance from Indigenous peoples, Russia, Colombia, Syria, Punjab, Azerbaijan, and more. An international marketplace will feature “Glocal” entrepreneurs, and a diverse range of food vendors will also be on site. Family friendly activities will be offered by Royal Botanical Gardens, Hamilton Public Library, Children’s International Learning Centre, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and more. An information fair featuring services of interest to newcomers will be located inside and in front of City Hall. At 2 pm a citizenship ceremony will be held in Council Chambers.

Established in 2009, the Hamilton Immigration Partnership Council (HIPC) is a local planning and advisory body dedicated to forging community partnerships to coordinate and enhance the delivery of local settlement services and support the integration of newcomers in Hamilton.
