Hamilton, ON– October 25, 2016 - Flu season is here. Getting the flu shot is the best way to protect yourself and those around you from the flu. The flu shot is now available. Ontarians six months of age and older can get flu shot from their doctor or at a clinic. Anyone five years of age and older can also get their flu shot from a pharmacist.

The flu is a serious illness that affects the breathing system. It starts suddenly and often lasts longer than a cold. Some people may have health problems and even have to stay in the hospital because of the flu.
Symptoms of the flu

- tiredness
- weakness

- runny eyes
- stuffy nose
- sore throat
The virus is often spread by droplets from coughing and sneezing. It can also be spread by touching your eyes or mouth after you touch objects and surfaces that have the virus on them. The flu virus can live on surfaces for up to 8 hours.
The flu shot is the best way to protect you and your family from getting sick with the flu this season. The flu vaccine has been proven to be safe and effective. You cannot get the flu from the vaccine. If you are exposed to the flu virus after getting the flu shot, you may still get flu-like symptoms; however, these symptoms are often less severe than if you did not get the flu shot.
