Lane restrictions on Hunter St beginning Monday

HAMILTON, ON – To safely complete bike lane installation, the City of Hamilton will reduce Hunter St between Park St S and Catharine St S to one lane beginning Monday, April 19, 2021 for approximately three months.

The work is expected to be substantially completed by July 30, 2021, weather permitting.

Details of the work include the installation of bicycle barriers, pavement markings, curb and sidewalk construction, and road resurfacing. Traffic signals will also be installed at Hughson St S and Hunter St E.

Motorists can expect minor traffic delays at this time.

HSR Route 4 Bayfront, Route 7 Locke, Route 8 York, Route 5 Delaware and Route 34 Upper Paradise will not be on detour, but passengers may experience minor delays.

Businesses in the area will remain open throughout the duration of the construction.

• The Hunter St bike lanes contribute to Hamilton's Cycling Master Plan, which helps guide the development and operation of cycling infrastructure in the city.
• With the completion of this segment of Hunter St, Hunter St will have barrier-buffered bicycle lanes from Queen St through to the base of the Keddy Access Trail.
• The City’s vision is to have a transportation system that offers a choice of integrated travel modes, emphasizing active transportation such as walking or cycling, public transit and carpooling.
