Ontario’s new support centre to help citizens with planning concerns is focus of City’s next PEDTalk
HAMILTON, ON – In April of 2018, the Province of Ontario replaced the century-old Ontario Municipal Board with a new body for hearing appeals on land use planning matters, called the Local Planning Appeals Tribunal. At the same time, they announced the creation of the Local Planning Appeal Support Centre (LPASC) to assist the public in understanding and navigating the new appeals process.
On Monday, January 21, the City of Hamilton’s Planning and Economic Development (PED) Department will be hosting the latest edition of its PEDTalks public lecture series. It will feature as its keynote speaker LPASC Executive Director Mary Lee. Ms. Lee will walk attendees through the new planning appeals process and discuss how individuals can participate in land use planning appeals under the new rules.
“The Province’s new appeals process has significantly changed how planning decisions are made in Ontario, and the LPASC is an important resource that’s been created to help members of the public,” said Jason Thorne, General Manager, Planning and Economic Development, City of Hamilton. “We hope this latest PEDTalk will help citizens understand the new process and the resources that are available to assist them.”
PEDTalks are free public events hosted by the City of Hamilton’s Planning and Economic Development (PED) Department to bring together citizens, business leaders, city staff and other city builders to share ideas and insights about Hamilton’s future growth and development. Past PEDTalk topics have included improving health through urban design, the importance of the public realm, building a culture of cycling, Hamilton as a music city, and several more.
