HAMILTON, ON - Nominations for the 2018 municipal election are now closed and the candidates list is available on the City’s website.
Be heard on October 22. This year’s municipal election takes place Monday, October 22, 2018, and here is what you need to know:
- The City of Hamilton Election Office is currently taking applications from the public for election employment for the 2018 municipal election on October 22 and advance poll days. Advance poll days are scheduled for October 4, 6, 9, 11 and 13. Applications can be picked-up at any Municipal Service Centre or downloaded online, and dropped off at Hamilton City Hall.
- Have you moved since the last election? Wondering if you are you on the voters list? To confirm if you’re on the list to vote in the 2018 municipal and school board elections this fall visit www.voterlookup.ca or call 1-866-296-6722.
- The ward boundaries for the City of Hamilton will change with this year’s upcoming municipal election. In advance of the October 22 election day, voters will receive information on their voter registration card in the mail. This will include their ward number, advanced polling dates and locations, and election day polling location.
- There have been changes to the Municipal Elections Act. The Ministry of Municipal Affairs reviews the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 after each Ontario municipal election to determine if it meets the needs of Ontario communities. As a result of these reviews, changes to the Municipal Elections Act were made, which will be in place in time for the 2018 municipal election. With these changes it becomes imperative that all potential candidates familiarise themselves with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.
