FACILITY RE-OPENING:
Huntington Park Recreation Centre: will reopen for free drop-in gym programs on Friday, March 20, 2026, to Sunday, March 29, 2026. The re-opening of the pool is temporarily postponed. A grand re-opening celebration is taking place on Saturday March 28, 2026, from 12 to 4 pm.
PROGRAM CANCELLATIONS:
Central Memorial Recreation Centre: Length swim on Thursdays from 5:30-9pm has been temporarily cancelled from March 5-April 2, 2026.
Dalewood Recreation Centre (pool only): Friday evening drop-in programs (Open Swim 18+ 4:30-5:30pm, Open Swim 5:30-6:45pm and Length Swim 7-8:30pm) have been temporarily cancelled from March 6-April 3, 2026.
Sir Winston Churchill Recreation Centre: Open Gym (17 & Under) 6:15-7 pm, Badminton (16+) 7:15-9:15pm cancelled Thursday, March 26, 2026.
Sir Winston Churchill Recreation Centre: Basketball (13-17) 7:30pm-9:15pm cancelled Friday, March 27, 2026.
Sir Winston Churchill Recreation Centre: Open Gym (17 & Under) 10-11am, Volleyball (16+) 11:15am-1:15pm, Basketball (18+) 1:30-3 pm cancelled Saturday, March 28, 2026.
Dundas Lions Memorial Community Centre: All drop-in gym programs cancelled Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
CLOSURES:
Dalewood Recreation Center: Accessibility Chair Lift is out-of-order until further notice as of January 23, 2026.
Stoney Creek Recreation Centre: Waterslide closed due to mechanical issues February 20, 2026 until further notice. The aquatic wheelchair is out-of-order as of March 16, 2025.
MAINTENANCE CLOSURES:
Jimmy Thompson Pool: Due to significant repairs required to the pool basin uncovered during scheduled maintenance, the re-opening date of the pool will be delayed until further notice. Given the pool’s heritage status and cultural importance, the facility will remain closed while a feasibility assessment is undertaken to determine the scope, approach, and requirements for the necessary restoration work. Spring registered swim lessons have been relocated to Sir Winston Churchill Recreation Centre and Norman Pinky Lewis Recreation Centre
Kanétskare Recreation Centre: Closed March 10 to April 12,2026 for maintenance. This closure will include a deep clean of the pool basin, pool deck, showers, and changerooms. Tile repairs, painting, and other general maintenance will also be taking place throughout the building. All programs will be cancelled for the duration of the closure.
Valley Park Community Centre: Closed March 23 to April 12, 2026, to begin work on the pool basin and waterslide, and to complete gymnasium flooring replacement and lighting upgrades. The Valley Park Library will remain open during this period. The pool and changerooms are expected to reopen in early summer 2026. More information on this closure: hamilton.ca/recprojects

Sir Allan MacNab Recreation Centre
Sir Wilfrid Laurier Recreation Centre
Valley Park Community Centre will be closed for three weeks, from Monday, March 23 to Sunday, April 12, 2026, to begin work on the pool basin and waterslide, and to complete gymnasium flooring replacement and lighting upgrades. The Valley Park Library will remain open during this period.
While the centre will re-open after this three-week period, the pool will remain closed to complete the waterslide replacement and conduct essential lifecycle renewal upgrades to the pool and changeroom areas. Completing this work at one time will allow it to be done safely while minimizing future service and programming disruptions. The pool and changerooms are expected to reopen in early summer 2026.
During the closure, individuals are encouraged to attend drop-in and registered programs at the following locations:
- Hill Park Recreation Centre
- Huntington Park Recreation Centre
- Sir Wilfrid Laurier Recreation Centre
- Stoney Creek Recreation Centre
Starting Tuesday April 13, 2026, drop-in and registered gym programs will be available at Valley Park Community Centre for the spring session.
