Update #4 on flooding at 235 Rebecca Street, Hamilton
Hamilton, ON – Sunday, January 10, 2016 – Power has been restored to the building at 235 Rebecca Street on floors seven to 17, with the exception of the hallways. Crews are working to restore heat to the building but there is no water service and the elevators remain out of service. An overnight shelter has been provided at Bennetto Community Centre for residents who were displaced.
The City’s Community & Emergency Services Department Operation Centre will remain activated overnight to support residents as needed. Red Cross, building management, emergency services and City staff continue to assess the building status and resident needs and are working with residents to plan for short-term housing needs and supports.
Background: Flooding at an apartment building on Rebecca Street displaced approximately 400 residents early this morning when a pipe burst and flooded the lower six floors of the 17-storey building.
